About Us
The Hong Kong Young Musicians¡¦ Wind Orchestra (HKYMWO), a non-profit making organization registered under the Societies Ordinance, was set up in December 2000 with the prime objective of nurturing the talents of young musicians through progressive training. The HKYMWO was founded by Mr. Wing-tsan Lam, Mr. Amos Lee and Mr. Joseph Yu. Their dedicated drive and sheer enthusiasm towards inspiring the next generation with the love for music are well aware of by many students and parents. To further underscore their commitment, these three teachers made their way to start off the dream of setting up HKYMWO. They provide free tuition to participating members to strive for their musical excellence, and thereby enhance the public¡¦s interest in the playing of wind instruments. It¡¦s the Orchestra¡¦s intention to expose Hong Kong¡¦s brilliant young musicians to various artistic experiences, which include opportunities for exchange and touring with the other top wind band players and renowned professional musicians around the world.
The HKYMWO has more than 50 members who are now training once a week preparing for local and overseas performances. The Orchestra has toured and performed in various concerts and performances including the Summer Band Festival at Jeju, the Asia & Pacific Band Directors Association Conference (Guangzhou, Macau and Taiwan), Macau International Band Festival, Hong Kong International Band Festival and the 12th International Conference of the World Association for Symphonic Bands and Ensembles (WASBE) in Singapore.
